  • Trados Studio screenshot showing segment number 113 with no tags in the source text. The phrase 'Cpirit of Ct. Lousis' is visible without issues.

Trados Studio screenshot highlighting the issue where a superscripted number is inserted and the following text remains in superscripted font instead of the original size.

    Dear brother Paul

The article is not useful because it is tackling tags that already existed in the source text which is not the case in my problem. As you can see there are no tags in the segment number (113) where lies the problem, except the phrase: 'Cpirit of Ct. Lousis' which is not my problem. My problem is that I inserted a superscripted number that is not found in the source text and I just want to continue writing in the original font, not in the small superscripted font.  You will see that In the second picture where the circled number is the one I need it to be superscripted, but as you can see in the underlined writing that follows keeps using a superscripted font which i need it to retain the original big font.

I hope I made myself clear and I am very sorry sir for troubling you.

  • I hope I made myself clear and I am very sorry sir for troubling you.

    Well... you're slowly getting there!

The article actually explains the problems for you if you are reading it carefully.  It doesn't matter where the tags are, source or target.

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing Arabic text with highlighted subscript tags numbered 1 to 5, indicating the order of deletion as per instructions.

    Do this:

    1. delete tag

    2. delete tag

    3. delete tag

    4. delete tag

    5. move this one to wherever the subscript should stop

It's quite clear now that you are showing tags that you are typing inside the tag pair that controls the subscript.  It will never change unless you type outside of the tag pair.

Another way to do this is delete all the tags and then just select the text that should be subscript and click the subscript icon in the ribbon.

  • Press CTRL+A and then CTRL+Space bar, this will remove all formatting from your target segment. And tags are in that case nothing more than formatting.

  • If you press CTRL+A, the complete segment will be selected. With CTRL+Space bar the complete formatting must be removed.

Or simply click before the tag, press DEL, then delete the remaining ghost tag the same way.

  • but I don't want to lose the tag. I need the superscripted number. I just want to continue writing in the original font.

  • Remove the tag, type all the text you need and then apply the tag to the number.

To avoid such effect you have to place the cursor after the closing tag and then start typing. In your screenshot all looks as it should, only the piece of text between the tags will be formatted accordingly.

  • Thanks for the video. It is strange, that you cannot place the cursor BEHIND the closing tag, this seems to be a bug to me.

As a workaround I suggested to type the WHOLE translation and only then apply the necessary formatting to the characters needed. What you do is, however, applying the formatting, BEFORE you typed further text in the original font. Please type the complete sentence first and apply superscript afterwards.
