Error message when trying to open a new project in Studio 2021

Hi,

I have a problem when trying to open a new project in Studio 2021 - after I click on the New project icon, an Error message appears on the screen, without an explanation, even without any text. All that I can do when it happens is close the program, and then restart it. On the other hand, when I choose the "Translate as single document" option all works fine, but it's rather frustrating when you have to open each file individually when there are multiple files to be translated. By the way, this happened after I installed the 2021 version and Windows 10 (previously I used 2019 and W7). So far, all my translations in Studio 2021 were done as single documents.

  • Try using Ctrl+N as the shortcut to create a new Project.  You may be starting the process to create a cloud project without realising and then something is going wrong.

    If that doesn't work try resetting Studio.  Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16

    So the path would become this:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16_old

    If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

    Thank you for your prompt reply!

    Neither solves the problem. I tried with Ctrl+N but the same error appeared. Then I found the Studio 16 folder on the path you indicated but the error appeared again.

    Hope there are some other ways to try fix this problem?

  • Go to File -> Setup -> Project templates. Remove all templates there and then import one from here: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16\ProjectTemplates

    Take either the Default or the SDL Trados, then try again.

  • Hello Zoran, I have followed the above instructions provided by Jerzy but unfortunately in my case they have not been successful.

    The first problem I found was that it was impossible to delete every template from the Project Template pannel. I could remove all of them except the Default one. I tried to eliminate it manually from the file where it was stored but still the solution did not prove to be successful.

    Since you said "All works fine now" I suppose you have definately solved this annoying issue.

    Can you tell me exactly what you did and which procedure you have followed?

    I have followed your instructions but the problem is still there.

    When I try do delete all templates from the Tamplate Pannel, I get the message warning me that the Default Template cannot be deleted.

    I tried to import one template from the folder you have mentioned above but the result is always the same, IMPOSSIBILITY to create a New Project.

    Can you please suggest further solutions. This situation is frustrating!!!

  • Import a project template from the folder I mentioned. Declare this one to be default, remove all other. Restart Studio. Now it should work.

    Yes, it definitely solved the issue.

    I just did what Jerzy told me to - removed all templates and imported them from the path he indicated, and, then, after restart, all worked fine.

    I see that Jerzy has just put a new explanation, hope it helps you finally solve the problem.

    As I said when I try to delete all templates (as suggested by Jerzy) I get prompted with a message advising me that the DEFAULT TEMPLATE CANNOT BE REMOVED.

    For this reason I have cancelled all other templates present in the folder except the default one, since I haven't been allowed to remove it.

    Have you been able to remove them all as suggested by Jerzy, including the default one? If you have been successful in doing that, then I wonder why I was not!!!! Have you carried out a specific procedure to achieve that goal?

    I have tried to import a template form the specific folder mentioned by Jerzy then I have set it as defoult but nothing seems to work!! The problem remains. I am really curious to know why in my case that solution is not working.

    I am addressing to you and to Jerzy as well, please let me know if you think that I can solve the problem in a different way.
