The "Add new Term" and "Quick Add new term" are both greyed and cannot be used, except when I select source and target content. Please help

Please help me. I wish I could send a video to you guys because this problem is kind of unique.

When I want to add my content translation content (by the way I use Trados 2021 but my MultiTerm is the 2017 version), if I select the all content on the source and target side as shown below, Trados allows me to use add a new term or quickly add a new term. It super slows me down if I do it that way. Can any who experienced the same problem help me?

Trados Studio interface showing selected source and target content with options to add a new term or quickly add a new term.

Screensaver quality is very low. I can't upload jpeg here.

  • Hi ,
It works this way by design. And it has nothing to do with MultiTerm. You don’t need MultiTerm installed to keep the termbase-related features of Studio functional. A term in the source language must always have an equivalent in the target language. You just can’t add a term without translation. A term is always a pair.***

Probably you want to add an already translated content into your TM? If so, just run a batch task called Update Main Translation Memories. All segments with green check mark will be added to TMs that have the ‘Update’ box checked.

You can add images and videos here by drag-and-drop method.

***UPDATE: I have just checked my Studio 2017 version and it works even with only one term selected. So, my assumption that it must always be a pair of terms was wrong. Maybe Studio 2021 behaves differently, but I can't check it at the moment. However, what is definitely true is that I don't have MultiTerm on my both computers with Studio 2017 and with Studio 2021.
