TM's penalty

Hi,
why isn't it possible to set the TM's penalty in Trados Studio 2021 SR1 - 16.1.8.4404 to a value greater than 20, per example to 26? In Trados Studio 2017, this was no problem.

Regards,
Andreas Meisel

  • Hi

This change has been enforced to align the TM penalties in Studio across our entire product portfolio.
Reality is legacy Studio versions where the only product that allowed for penalties greater than 20.

What made this difficult decision easier was perception that if you are using penalties extensively (bigger than 20) it may suggest that data cleansing of some description is required on users end.
A task that all users cant avoid, at some stage.

While I cant give you what you are looking for, I hope you can sympathise with my explanation.
If this penalty change is causing you great concern  - let me know and I will be more than happy to see what we can do to evolve your current setup around this fixed change.

    Thanks

    Lydia

  • Hi  ,

I just stumbled upon this because a client asked me to set the penalty to around 25 and I was wondering about the same thing as you.

I set the penalty to 20 and started to experiment with the filters.

In the end I found a filter which worked (the highlighted in the screenshot below) and added 7 to 27 in total. (The filter penalties also can't be larger that 20.)

I didn't get the TM Database filter to work which would have been my first (and natural) choice. I couldn't figure out what it expects as argument.

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing Filter Penalties section with two filters: MTfilter with a penalty of 5 and condition 'NOT TM Database CONTAINS - MT', and MT-Penalty with a penalty of 7 and condition 'NOT Created by - MT'.
