Error "Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionService could not be started"

Hi everyone,

We acquired Trados Studio Freelance Plus 2021 a few months ago (for 2 PCs).
Recently, I tried the free NMT service with our new SDL Trados.

It worked well from English to French but did not work from French to English.

On my request,  (I have no service plan), I had a remote session with a SDL tech, to solve the problem. After 45 minutes, it seems to be working when the tech had installed a “weaver plug-in” for that NMT, but ... 

I closed SDL Trados to do something else.
When I came back to Trados, the NMT French to English was not working anymore.
I did restarted my computer.
And then – after starting Trados – I had a little window with this error message:
Error "Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionService could not be started"
SDL Trados will not start.
I went on the community pages to try to solve the problem with no success.
(Even using that Trados Freshstart app.)

I do not have access to my Trados anymore and I'm waiting for a solution on that issue which is quite annoying, for a software of that price !
I really cannot understand why they (SDL) offer us that NMT free service when it is not working properly .
I feel a bit like a hostage here. Anyone has a solution, pretty please?

  • Maybe I was not clear on how we use the software. Sorry. Understand that we are not using the 2 SDL Trados Freelance 2021 Plus installations (on 2 PCs) as 2 translation stations for 2 translators. Only one person - Danielle - is the translator here. The other PC, mine, is used as a backup and test machine. I’m an engineer not a translator. When it’s time to get a plug-in, I try it on my PC, and if it is working properly, we then install it on Danielle’s PC. When I use short text in my PC’s Trados, it’s only to validate an installation (plug-in or update) and functionality.

    I when around the community groups to ask and try to find a solution. I tried 4 “workarounds” (as an example: gateway.sdl.com/.../communityknowledge with no results. A waste of time.

    I tried what you proposed (2 days ago), and SDL Trados came back (as a new installation). Thanks! and Thanks!
    It’s now configured as the translator’s PC.

    As for losing money, consider that we have lost quite some time first, trying to have the NMT working from French to English (It was working from English to French), which was the first reason to ask for support and then, not only the problem was not solved, but the SDL Trados on my PC did not function anymore. Second, we also lost time getting the backup SDL Trados working again. Furthermore, if the NMT had worked from French to English (after the support session) it would have saved the translator quite some time. she (Danielle) was counting on it ... Time is money. Money, we lost.
