Since the last update, the New Local Project screen, window for selecting Source Language, won't fold open, I cannot choose or enter a source language. This is a critical bug/issue as it renders Studio useless.

This is the file the client provides and I've been working on these for months without any issues. Studio opens them just fine without me having to change any settings.
Goo. Restart the PC. Then go to Studio, File -> Setup -> Project templates. Remove all templates listed there. After that, first import the default templates from here: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16\ProjectTemplates
Then use one of these templates, create a new project and use this for new template. It looks to me like you use old templates from previous versions.

from the "Tell me what you want to do" option, it does not.
ok - that starts to narrow the problem down a bit. What did you type into this box? I just tried selecting this:

And it worked fine. But perhaps you typed something in?

Pfff my dear Lord, so far for an easy solution.
So you really never bothered with how to properly deal with xml files. But the Any XML file type has changed. As stated above, I suppose you are using outdated project templates.

If it works, I don't bother with it as I assume I'm dealing with it properly.
I only have a default template set up there, and I cannot remove that one
New Project - New Local Project. I did not type anything, I just click the options.
Import another one from the path specified, declare that as default and try again.

You can do, and when you restart Studio the correct latest version will be created in its place. However, you said your problem was only in Trados Live and not in Studio? Perhaps the problem is something else altogether. How familiar are you with Trados Live?
