Inaccurate Confirmation Statistics in Trados Studio 2022

I have seen several times, the Confirmation Statistics showing in Trados Studio 2022 different numbers in the interface.

See those discrepancies below.

53% vs. 36% translated.

The correct number is the later

Is there a way to fix that

  • I do not understand the logic here.

I selected "Words (source)" not segments to show in both Display settings and in Confirmation statistics.

Why the Files screen shows a statistic based upon segments?

Can I get back to see this statistic based upon words?

    Thanks

  • Can we get a reversal of this situation (back to Studio 2021 and older) and be sure that what we chose to see in Trados Studio 2022 - 17.0.3.11695 is what we see in the Editor view is the same as in Files view (% of words and NOT % of segments)

  • This discrepancy is extremely annoying as I relate to the Files screen to plan my current work and when a project on this screen shows 75% completed (by segments) when it is actually less than 52% (by words) in reality in the Editor, I am way off in my planning.

I am being paid as everybody else by words, not by segments.

NOTE: The new Manager (beta) screen has the same problem?

Please, bring back ASAP a meaningful indicator for measuring progress

  • I am actually forced to open a session with Trados 2021 to follow my progress with the Confirmation statistics indicator I need, as you can see below in the screenshot (Studio 2002 is on the top and shows much progress which is not true).

    How stupid is that?

Screenshot of Trados Studio 2021 showing two files in translation with incorrect progress percentages. Top file shows 70% but should be 52%, bottom file shows 74% but should be 53%.

  • Hi  ,

I also noticed weird behavior of the Confirmation Statistics in Studio 2022 (17.0.3.11695), but it does not relate to the way the values are shown.

I worked on a project with nearly 8k words and was finished with the translation. After saving my files in the editor, I went to Files view. The wordcount displayed in the confirmation statistics displayed some haphazard values (1000 words left to work on). After selecting Batch Tasks > Translation Count, the value in Confirmation Statistics matched the one in the editor, but in view of user experience, this behavior definitely needs improvement...

In addition, I agree with    that the progress bar percentage in upper part of the files view should be reverted to words, as these are the vital units we all work with.

    Best

  • Annette,

    Your support is welcome.

I submitted an "idea" to get this fixed when the staff at RWS said they disagree with everyone like us using "Words" (not segments).

I understand they do to translate for a living when they say that, but my astonishment is that they dis not also realize how inconsistent is that:

The "Confirmation Statistics" indicator is using Words in the Editor (You may choose segments here, which is OK),
The "Confirmation Statistics" indicator is using Words in the Manager (Beta) (no option to choose Segment)
    The "Confirmation Statistics" indicator
is using Segments in the Files view since Studio 2022 (and you cannot choose Words here when it was rightly the defaults for 10 years)?

I have marked your idea as a duplicate because you posted it into the wrong ideas site (Appstore Ideas) and it's a duplicate of the one you have already commented on so I don't know why you created a new one.  Any who does support this should use this idea:

Please go back to Progress Bar focusing on words not segments

Also, on this I just want to make sure this is accurate:

The "Confirmation Statistics" indicator is using Words in the Editor (You may choose segments here, which is OK),
The "Confirmation Statistics" indicator is using Words in the Manager (Beta) (no option to choose Segment)
    The "Confirmation Statistics" indicator
is using Segments in the Files view since Studio 2022 (and you cannot choose Words here when it was rightly the defaults for 10

The Confirmation Statistics indicator in the Manager (Beta) does have an option to choose Words for the display and it's permanently there for the table.  In fact this view gives you exactly what you are after I think:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Confirmation Statistics with a pie chart showing distribution of words by confirmation level and a dropdown menu for Words (source) selected.

The Confirmation Statistics indicator in the Projects View does have an option to choose Words:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Confirmation Statistics in table format with Words (source) selected in the Chart Display dropdown, showing counts for Not Translated and Draft.

The Confirmation Statistics indicator in the Files View does have an option to choose Words:

Screenshot of Trados Studio's Confirmation Statistics in table format with Words (source) selected in the Chart Display dropdown, showing an empty table with headers.

The Progress column in the Files View is there so show progress through the files in the project and this is more than just a wordcount.  In fact a wordcount doesn't always accurately reflect whether a file is completely finished which is why the change was made.

However, a reasonable suggestion would be to support an option to choose your preference.  So I suggest you stop asking for it to be reverted as this won't happen (there is hardly any support for this as far as I can see anyway), and instead focus on two things:

    1. explain why the various other ways to view your progress through a file are inadequate for you
    2. suggest a compromise where these options are made available for the Progress column as well
Close-up screenshot of a dropdown menu in Trados Studio with options for Words (source), Characters (source), and Segments.

I can't guarantee this will convince the product manager to devote valuable development resources to making this happen, especially since the new Manager (Beta) view already provides what you want.  That one view could replace the old Projects and Files View in time anyway.  At least that's what I think given they probably become redundant features and it's an opportunity to clean up and simplify the user interface.

I'm going to lock this thread too and suggest you concentrate your efforts where they will do most good... assuming I still haven' managed to convince you that you already have everything you need with the current features.
