2 days ago, I bought Studio 2014 in order to be able to merge several files into one when a package contains more than one file; and now I find that this feature does not work in the current version of Studio 2014 SP 2 version 11.2.4409.10 - highly annoying!! How can I downgrade to the previous version in which, I am told, this merge function in the Editor view works seamlessly. Anyone???

it sounds as you are facing the known issues that is present since CU8 and relates to filetypes. You need to import special filetypes per project, but there are two universal that work in most cases, try these (attached).
You need to open Project Settings > Filetypes > Import Settings... then try virtually merging the files.
You need to use these filetypes with any project that does not allow virtually merging files - if you create the projects yourself, add these into your project template.
Hopefully this will be addressed soon.
