How can I fix the issue of my terms not showing up in Trados Studio 2021 when the termbase is loaded?

Hi,

I have had a frustrating afternoon as a termbase, that has worked perfectly over the past week, suddenly won't show any terms in Editor view, even though the termbase is loaded.  I know the termbase is loaded as it is showing as being 'Enabled' in Project Settings and when I conduct a manual 'Termbase Search' the term shows up in the Termbase Search window. But it says ‘no results available’ in the Term Recognition window (and the terms are not underlined in the source text) even though I know some of the terms are there in the source text and I am in the specific segment that includes the term. How can this be fixed? I know others have been having the same issue, but I have not found the answer on the forum as to how to fix this bug so am posting the question again.

The termbase was created in MultiTerm and worked for several files earlier this week, but it is now not working for any of them. It has taken me much longer to complete my translation as a result and I am very frustrated that the usual 'close Trados and shut down and reboot' is not working, so am now at a loss.

Can anyone help please?

  • Hi

Please indicate whether your Trados is up to date. You can check that in the top right corner of the screen, see if there are any notifications or from Help - Search for updates.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Elisa,

Thanks for replying. I believe my Trados is up-to-date - when I click on notifications it says "there are no notifications" and when I click on "Check for Updates" nothing comes up. My most recent download is "TradosStudio2021SR2_16.2.12.9338" from 6th September 2022.

    Best regards

    Sue

Perhaps more important is to know whether your MultiTerm is a matching build.  The latest builds would be:

    Trados Studio 2021 - 16.2.12.9338
    MultiTerm 2021 - 16.2.1.1044

You could also try reindexing your termbase in Multiterm.

  • My MultiTerm is "MultiTermDesktop2021SR2_16.2.1.1044".

I will look at reindexing my termbase, thanks. I'll let you know if this resolves this recent issue.

  • Hi Paul,

I found instructions on how to recreate or rebuild a termbase in MultiTerm Desktop (link pasted below to help others who are in the same situation), followed these instructions and then added the ‘new’ (i.e. recreated) termbase to the project in Studio and the terms are now showing up properly. Thank you for suggesting this (I assume this is what you meant by reindexing).

Do you know why this happened with my other termbase? Whilst I am grateful to have a workaround, I would rather it didn’t happen in the first place, as it is quite a time-consuming process to have to repeat every time.

    Thanks again for your help,

    Sue

  • I have encountered this problem many times with Trados. I solved it by using OmegaT, a free CAT tool.

It has no problem with large TBs. You have to convert the TB to Excel file by using Glossary Converter and then by using Notepad to a txt file,

You have to create a project in OmegaT. In the source files folder of the project you copy the Trados bilingual files.

You copy the notepad termbase file to the glossary folder of the project in OmegaT project folder.

Then you can work on the files and the term recognition works fine in the glossary window of OmegaT.

If you don't want to work with OmegaT you can have both Trados and OmegaT open and view the terms.
