This is just way the feature works.  If you were to scroll to your language you should find the font you selected is still in place.  The UI just sorts itself for every language and displays from the beginning.  It is confusing!!

Thanks for your kind reply, could you clarify what that means by "scrolling to your language"?

I asked an engineer before, and he said this may be due to the language setup in Win 10; he suggested I reinstall Win 10 again, even though this is a new PC.
That would also be a huge task for me, plus, I'm not sure if the issue could be properly solved after reinstalling.

Not sure if this is a bug for 2019 version (installed on Win10) either, so that's highly appreciated that you can test my file on the most recent version.
For the NDA I signed, I think it's not appropriate to attach the file to the public forum directly.
So is it possible to mail you instead? If so, could you provide the email address?

Sure... you showed this screenshot:

When you set the font after "scrolling" through the list and selecting your language, and then close and reopen the settings it displays as you have shown.  In alphabetical order from the start.  The list contains all languages and the font setting for each language is contained within the appropriate language.  So if you "scroll" and select your language again you'll find that the setting you made has been applied.

This setting is a general setting so if you had four target languages you regularly worked with which one would you show in the display?  It only shows one, so you have to "scroll" and select each time you want to take a look at the settings for a particular language.

Kindly appreciate your detailed explanation.

As for file checking, I asked the translation agency I worked with, they use more recent versions (2021), and according to them, there is no problem in displaying the correct characters. So guess the problem is due to OS (Win 10) itself. Will find time to reinstall everything.

FYI, I just found the problem is naturally solved when the Custom Language Fonts are set to other MingLiU fonts before reopening the software.
Looks like it's due to the conflict of fonts.
Though some characters still look weird, it's acceptable.

All in all, for anyone having these problems, pls set "Formatting display style" and "Custom Language Fonts" as described in the post.
That should be helpful! (Can't believe the simple actions take me so much time in finding solutions.)

However, some characters shown in  MT (Machine Translation) are still square, while the embedded TMs seem to be normal.
Do you have any good suggestions?




 

p.s. For unknown reason, while the segment is confirmed, the same suggested MT automatically shown becomes normal again.

I don't really have a comprehensive and explainable answer for this, but maybe you'd be interested to test the experimental Trados Studio alpha build with an updated technology stack behind the Editor that we have in our beta group at the moment as this is also bringing improvements around text rendering and clarity.

I think it's important for anyone experiencing issues like this to have the opportunity to make sure we're on the right track by proving we have solved a particular problem in practice, and it also gives you the opportunity to table the problems you're having directly to the development team.
