Translation from English to Norwegian fails.

Hi,

I have been using Trados Studio since Mai 2020. Lately the translation process have been more difficult and time consuming than ever. Using the "Ctr+Alt+J" to get a suggested translation for a sentence, the "Ctr+Alt+J" doesn't work. Instead of giving me a translated sentence, I get the same original English line. I have tried different approaches, but ended up translating the sentence manually. The result may be just as good, but it takes a lot more time and I get no help from the translation memories.

I haven't tried to uninstall and reinstall the program yet, that may be the next step, but by uninstalling the program, will  still keep the translation memories and local jobs?

I have Trados Studio Freelance Cloud Capabilities, and works local.

ok - this does seem to be coming from your actual TM.  Please can you open your TM in the "Translation Memories" view and search for this segment. Then share a screenshot.

Also make sure that the TM you open is the one you are using in your project.  Here's how to do these things:

  • Hi Paul,

    Unfortunately this didn't work out.

But, and I'm a little embarrased to admit it, it turns out that my GT4T was set to translate from Norwegian to English, not the other way round. And just to make it even more embarrasing is that it was my youngest son who figured it out.

Many thanks for your time, help and efforts. If you ever come to Oslo, I owe you a glassro two!

    Best regards

Rest assured that our futures are safer than we might sometimes think in the hands of our young ones :-)

I much prefer the easier ones!!  Less work behind the scenes.
