Unable to open some tracked changes files in Trados Studio 2019 SR2

Hello,

When I try and open some .docx files with Tracked Changes in Trados Studio 2019, I get the following error message:

Error dialog box in Trados Studio with message: The document cannot be processed since it contains unexpected contents. Buttons for Knowledge Base and Community are visible.

90% of the files open ok, but I sporadically get this error message. I've seen it for longer files that include several tracked changes, although I'm unable to identify the root cause.

I tried some basic troubleshooting steps I found in your forums (e.g. copying and pasting the content to another file) but without any luck.

Files open ok in the Preview feature, but not in the Editor.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you!

Debora

  • Hello Debora,

I understand that you're having trouble opening some .docx files with Tracked Changes in Trados Studio 2019. This issue is known and is caused by a defect in the MS Word file type. Our development team is aware of this and a fix will be implemented in a future version of the filter.

In the meantime, here's a workaround that you can use:

Step 1: Open the .docx file in Microsoft Word.

Step 2: Accept all the tracked changes in the document. You can do this by going to the "Review" tab, then click on "Accept" and choose "Accept All Changes".

    Step 3: Save the document.

Step 4: Try opening the document again in Trados Studio 2019.

This should allow you to open and work on your files in Trados Studio 2019 without encountering the error message. I hope this helps! If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,
