Message window keeps popping up

This question has been asked before, years ago, but no proper solution was provided, as far as I can see. The message window keeps popping up when I'm translating and I can't get rid of it. There are always a lot of false errors and warnings, such as tags and numbers (question for another day), so correcting the errors is not a solution. So far I have closed the window (it just pops up again a couple of segmenst later, again and again), clicked on "delete all messages" (new so called errors makes the messages window pop up again), turned off all verifications under Options and under Project Settings, and I have reset the windows layout under the View tab in the Editor window. Nothing works. Please help, this is incredibly annoying! I use Trados Studio 2022, SR2.

Kind regards

Glad I could help. A nice side effect: another Trados Studio mystery has been solved here Slight smile

But I fully understand your frustration. As you may see, this problems does exist since prehistorical times. My analogy has been published by Paul Filkin 2021, but it is even older. I think this "problem" has been introduced with SDL Trados Studio 2011. In software terms these are centuries...

    Hi Aubeline, hi Jerzy,

I always run my verifications at the end of a job, never after each segment.

I always have 'Enable verification of segment' unticked as displayed above, via:
File > Options > Editor > Automation > After confirming segments manually >  (untick) Enable verification of segment.

My Messages window is always present, but pinned as above behind my Translation results, where it remains until I need it.

In the project settings, no verification is unticked, but no verification takes place until I want it to.

Trados Studio Project Settings window showing Verification options with QA Checker 3.0, Tag Verifier, Terminology Verifier, and Trados Number Verifier listed.

Trados never switches to the Messages window, because it is not running the verifications when I confirm each segment.

Aubeline is finding that, even though she has unticked 'Enable verification of segment', once she has used the Preview function, she is still finding that verification takes place again each time she confirms a segment.

I cannot reproduce that scenario. I don't use the Preview function because it annoys me but when I do what Aubeline describes, it does not switch verification on confirm segment back on again.

Thus, either Aubeline's settings are different to mine, or her Trados setup is faulty.

Aubeline, there are other things that you can do to speed up Trados, for example:

You can turn off Match Repair in your project settings (or via File > Options if you always create a new project based on your profile settings)

Trados Studio Project Settings window with Match Repair options, showing uPLIFT Match Repair toggle off and Match Repair Source options for Machine Translation and Termbases.

Turn off fragment matching under File > Options

Trados Studio Options window under Editor settings showing Fragment Matches Window with color options for highlighting matched source segment fragments and fragment matches.

The above setting isn't in project settings so affects all projects old and new.

You can turn off Concordance searches if you want to:

Trados Studio Options window under Editor settings showing Concordance Search Window with options for performing search if the TM lookup returns no results.

    Every little helps.

The one setting that I always have turned OFF is 'Enable LookAhead' also under File>Options>Automation:

Trados Studio Options window under Editor settings showing Translation Memory options with 'Enable LookAhead' and 'Enable verification of segment' checked.

Unticking this box will prevent Trados searching for the content ahead of the segment you're currently working in. If you have a powerful setup, LookAhead can streamline your translation process so your work is more efficient and faster. If you do not have a powerful setup, LookAhead will slow Trados down.

Changing the above settings will help your speed but, Aubeline, if your settings are as I described earlier in this thread 6 months ago to Rosanna, you should not be experiencing verification on confirmation of each segment.

The best thing would be for you to start a new thread and ask for someone at Trados to take a look at your setup.

Here are my instructions on how to do that:

Click the +New button top right of this screen to create a new thread, write a short heading then ask your question again and ask specifically for someone to contact you from RWS Support.

The staff at RWS can only generate one Support Case per thread so this is why you need to start a new thread if you would like someone to help you with your specific problem; they can then look at your Trados setup remotely if required.

Give as many details of the problem as you can, and, for example which version of both Studio and MultiTerm you are using (they need to be the right version for each other) and what steps cause the issue to arise.

    All the best,
    Ali Smiley
