Fragment Alignment, Translation Model unable to build a translation model

When I try to activate fragment alignment, the dialogue window always look like this. If I click ON at the top of the window, Fragment Alignment Support window runs a process (without error), I close it, close also the main Fragment Alignment window, and nothing happens. I reopen the setting window, and upLIFT is set to OFF again.

And Translation Model says "Unable to build a translation model...." as you see on the image.

As a result, I cannot activate Fragment Match search.

Trados 2024, Windows 11

Screenshot of Trados Studio Translation Memory Settings showing Fragment Alignment Status with 'Off' selected. A warning under Translation Model states 'Unable to build a translation model, because the total amount of translation units is less than the required threshold.' There are 1853 unaligned translation units and a note that there is no need to update the alignment information.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information such as the version of Trados Studio you are using, the operating system, and any recent changes you made to the system or software. Also, it would be helpful to know if you have tried any troubleshooting steps already.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

Based on your description, it seems like you're having trouble activating the fragment alignment feature in Trados Studio. Here are some steps you can try:

Step 1: Ensure that your Translation Memory (TM) has more than 1,000 Translation Units (TUs). Fragment alignment works optimally with 5,000 TUs or more.

Step 2: Try to rebuild the translation model. You can do this by selecting 'Build Translation Model' after enabling fragment alignment on a TM.

Step 3: Check if there are any unaligned translation units in your TM. If there are, try to align them by selecting the 'Align Translation Units' option.

Step 4: If you have not enabled the 'Align new content automatically' option, consider doing so. This will automatically align new content, which could resolve your issue.

Step 5: If you observe that automatic alignment affects performance, you might want to disable the 'Align new content automatically' option.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, it might be a more complex problem that requires further investigation.

I wrote that the Build Translation Model button is GREY. NOT AVAILABLE.

How do I enable fragment alignment on a TM?

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

I understand that the 'Build Translation Model' button is greyed out and not available. This could be due to a few reasons, such as not having enough Translation Units (TUs) in your Translation Memory (TM), or the fragment alignment feature not being enabled.

Here are the steps to enable fragment alignment on a TM:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to the 'Translation Memories' view.

Step 2: Select the TM you want to enable fragment alignment for.

Step 3: Right-click on the selected TM and choose 'Settings'.

Step 4: In the 'Translation Memory Settings' dialog box, select 'Fragment Alignment' from the navigation tree.

Step 5: In the 'Fragment Alignment Status' section, enable fragment alignment support for the TM.

Step 6: After enabling fragment alignment, the 'Build Translation Model' button should be available. Click on it to build the translation model.

Remember, fragment alignment works optimally with 5,000 TUs or more. If you have less than this in your TM, it could be the reason why the 'Build Translation Model' button is greyed out.

    Hello,

I understand your frustration. If the 'Build Translation Model' button remains greyed out even after enabling fragment alignment, it could be due to a software glitch or a compatibility issue with your operating system.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Step 1: Close and reopen Trados Studio to see if the issue persists.

Step 2: If the problem continues, try to repair your Trados Studio installation. You can do this from the 'Programs and Features' section of your computer's Control Panel. Find Trados Studio in the list of installed programs, right-click on it, and select 'Repair'.

Step 3: If the issue still isn't resolved, you might need to reinstall Trados Studio. Please ensure you have your license details handy before doing so.

Step 4: If none of the above steps work, it might be a more complex issue that requires further investigation.

It's been like this from the 1st day I installed the software. I have had 30+ project done.

Step 2: If the problem continues, try to repair your Trados Studio installation. You can do this from the 'Programs and Features' section of your computer's Control Panel. Find Trados Studio in the list of installed programs, right-click on it, and select 'Repair'.

Ran the Repair, same thing happens. I select ON for Fragment Alignment, it runs that pop-up window, and when I close and reopen, it is OFF again.

    So no solution.

What’s the number of units in that TM?

If it’s too close to the lower limit (1,000 TUs), Trados Studio might still not build the translation model.
