XML files. In the latest 2024 Trados Studio, the xml file imports with all the text dumped into one segment and Studio slows to a crawl. Is there a solution?

Hello. My XML file imports into Studio 24 with everything dumped into one segment. Also it slows to a crawl. Is it possible to segment these files into a usable format? Is there a settings file to import? Many thanks!

    get that ok?

Yes.  It is XML, but it's an XLIFF file which is a special kind of XML.  It's also a great example of how NOT to prepare an XLIFF for translation as it's basically all the translatable content in one trans-unit as a CDATA dump. Fortunately however, the source and target are both French!  So they have copied the fr-FR source into the target.  This makes it somewhat easier to deal with.

If it was me I would do the following:

    1. create a custom XML filetype that extracts the target content only (this is in French)
    2. translate the target content
    3. save the target file
    4. now you have a French -> English target file

It's not too difficult to do that... this article may help:

But if you've never done that before let me know and I'll happily create the settings file for you which should be fine as long as this is an example of all the files you have, or an example of the full fil if this is a sample?
