"Access to the path 'C:\Users\..." is denied. How can I change the path/storage location?

Hello everyone,

After a notebook change, new installation of SDL, and a first attempt to save a translation, I receive this error message:
Error dialog box from Trados Studio with a red cross icon indicating 'Access to the path C:UsersUsernameOneDrive - CGMDokumenteStudio2021AutoSaveFile Name is denied.' with Knowledge Base and Community buttons and an OK button.

Where can I change the path/storage location?

Thank you for an easy to understand solution, I'm really not a computer expert. ;-)

Kind regards,
Cora

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the exact version of Trados Studio you are using and the operating system of your computer. This will help in providing a more accurate solution.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Cora,

The error message you're seeing usually occurs when Trados Studio doesn't have the necessary permissions to access a certain file or directory. Here's how you can change the path/storage location:

    Step 1: Open Trados Studio.

Step 2: Go to "File" > "Setup" > "Projects".

Step 3: Under "Default Project Locations", you can change the "Default Project Path" and "Default Backup Path". Click on the folder icon next to each field to browse and select a new location.

Step 4: Click "OK" to save the changes.

If you're still having trouble, you might want to try resetting Trados Studio to its default settings. Here's how:

    Step 1: Close Trados Studio.

Step 2: Go to: C:\Users\%username%\App Data\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio (you can copy/paste this path directly in Windows File Explorer).

Step 3: Depending on your version of Trados Studio, rename the corresponding folder to OLD_<folder name>. For example, if you're using Trados Studio 2021, rename the folder "Studio16" to "OLD_Studio16".

Step 4: If you can't find the paths above, open Windows File Explorer, click on "View" and check the "Hidden Items" checkbox.

Please note that resetting Trados Studio to its default settings will remove all your personal settings and preferences, so please use this as a last resort.
