André Stryger I'm not sure where you found that URL, but please note that the current RWS Knowledge Base is available at:

The correct link to the article you're referring to is:

This article specifically refers to Trados Studio 2024.
It looks like the URL you used may point to an outdated version of the article.
Hope this helps!

Your information is not enough. What is the format of the source files? When did that happen? Had you a Studio crash in the meantime? Where are the files stored?
The reason for asking is simple. I do work with Trados Studio since the very beginning. Since the virtual merge is possible, I use it very extensively, as most of my projects contain more than one file. I have even worked on projects with over 100,000 words in several virtually merged files and never ever encountered something similar.

I found it simply by searching in Google. The newer article you pointed me to has a fix that works. Thank you! However if you open the fixed files, Trados breaks them again. Also, in the article it says that the root cause is that sdlxliff files may get corrupted in OLDER versions of Trados Studio when the underlying xliff file contains source comments and
several sdlxliff files are opened via virtual merge. I'm using the latest version of Trados Studio and it is still breaking such files. It would be good to get this bug fixed in an update of Trados.
