The error message indicates that you are aligning documents containing the style "tw4winMark", which is very likely given the fact that you confirm that these documents have been created in Trados Workbench. If they have not been properly cleaned, some occurrences of tags using this style may remain in the documents.

The solution is to open the documents in Word, search for the style "tw4winMark" (it is a style, not a "term"),  delete all occurrences of this style and save the document again.

You should then be able to align these "clean" documents without problems.

Hi Paul,

thank you very much for the tip concerning the download. Switched from Chrome to Edge and was able to download the app.

Actually the translated file was bilingual. I somehow didn't see that before. Maybe the problem had nothing to do with tw4win - but simply with the bilingual file... 

The app worked (tried one file so far). It removed the markup and the original language. The document alignment in Studio 2015 succeeded, using one file with the original language and the translated bilingual file cleaned up by the app. 

It also worked without ticking the "Remove tw4win styles from target document".

Concerning Walter's answer, in the bilingual file I was not able to identify the styles manually and delete them (see screenshot of the bilingual file with markup). 

So if there was no tw4 style in the first place, there is probably an easier way to add all of the translation pairs from bilingual files to the translation memory. But how?

Hello Eeva,

Well, now that we know this was bilingual and not just a monolingual doc with the tw4winstyle left in there can you advise whether the bilingual doc contained source and target information?  So was it translated or just a copy of the source?  If it was translated then the easiest way is to open the file and just update it to a TM in Studio.  If it's not translated then cleaning it up is the way to go.

On the tw4winstyle in the document.  Normally this is a hidden style used for the markup and is why you can't see it unless you show the hidden content.  So if this was a Trados bilingual then it definitely does have the style... maybe you are not showing the full list?  Click on the little "dinky" in the ribbon style group to show the full list instead of the stuff in the ribbon:
