TMX Export TransitXV language pairs for importing in SDL Studio

Hello,

One of our customers wants to switch from Transit XV to SDL Trados Studio. Is there a possibility to create a TMX file out of the Transit language pairs (dating back 3 years)?

I know you can only create a TMX file if the original files are available. Unfortunately, we don't have the original files anymore and would like to export the language pairs into TMX.

Any suggestions?

Best regards,

  • Hello Sébastien,

I have tried to create a "reference material extract" out of all files and that seemed to work. However, I am not able to load this extract (or even the original language pairs) into Transit NXT and "upgrade" them from XV to NXT reference material. I receive the error message that they are an "unknown file format".
I must say that most Transit project were delivered by the customer as PXF files. We did not import them ourselves and therefore only have language pairs from FrameMaker, Excel, Word and TXT files.

If I am not able to load them into Transit NXT, I will not be able to convert them into TMX for use in Trados. Any suggestions?

    Kind regards,
    Denise Jacobs
  • Hello Denise,
This may be a compatibility problem between both Transit versions.
    I would either
export to TMX with Transit XV,
    or
recreate the reference material and export to TMX with Transit NXT.

The problem may also come from one or a few files which were corrupted and which corrupted your whole reference material: so try with a few language pairs to check if the functionality in Transit XV or NXT is OK.

When you create some "reference material", only the source and the target of translatable segments are copied out of the language pairs. I had no original files either as I migrated my language pairs to Studio.

    I hope this helps.
    Kind regards
