Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionService

I recently updated to TRADOS STUDIO 2017 from 2015 on Windows 10.

It all worked fine, but now I cannot open it because of the following error: "Service 'Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionSerrvice' could not be started"

Does anybody know if this is linked to a plugin problem - I think I may have wrongly installed the migration plugin Sdl.Community.StudioMigrationUtility.Integration.sdlplugin - and whether there is a quick solution rather than uninstalling Studio/licence and reinstalling the whole thing again??

Many thanks.

  • Hi Mike,

Can't be sure without the error stack to see what's under this error message. But it does look as though you may indeed have installed the same plugin twice, and in two different locations. Make sure you do not have this plugin installed in these folders:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Unpacked\

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages\
    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Unpacked\

    c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages\
    c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Unpacked\

So remove all traces of the plugin and the unpacked folder that is created in the unpacked folders when you start Studio and then doubleclick the sdlplugin file you downloaded and try again.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

I'm having this problem again, after first having installed a large number of plugins without problems. Then installed 18 more (for investigation purposes) and it happened.

I don't think I have installed any of them twice, but if I have: how do I see that? There is no plugin name that occurs twice in these folders (and the Local folders don't contain anything at all).

I will try deleting all the 18 ones and then re-installing them a couple at a time. Do you have any other suggestion?

  • The solution is almost certainly the same... we have updated many apps and changed the manifest to the point you need to remove the old apps before installing the new ones.  When we did this we also added a note into the appstore advising users to remove the old one first... but if there has been updates since then and you missed it you may well have installed without removing the old one first.

  • My method seems to work. Uninstalling the plugins is very simple (just delete them from the Plugins/Packages folder) and then I reinstalled them as I said. I have been very careful not to install any plugin (at all) that was already installed and which had the warning included in its presenation; also every time I got the message that a plugin was already installed I cancelled the new installation. (Is that message always given when a plugin is already installed?)

Through this method I discovered that one plugin which cause this particular problem (at least on my computer) is BaccS_Connector. I shall try again some time; I suspect things like this may be off-and-on.

If I find out anything else I'll report it.
