Nepali (Preeti font) compatibility issues

Hello!

Has anyone out there had issues aligning and translating English>Nepali files in Studio 2015?

When aligning and translating documents, the Nepali target text comes up as nonsensical groupings of Latin characters. Since it seemed that the Preeti font was not compatible in the Alignment view, I tried pasting the Nepali content by segment into the xliff file, with the same result.

I then also set the Nepali font adaptation to Preeti, which the target Word file is in, but that does not seem to help.

The odd thing is that about 1 in 100 segments WILL appear correctly in Preeti.

Has anyone faced this issue? Am I missing something obvious here?

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for your help! I am able to see much more of the Nepali text when I open it in Studio as the source file. There are still some issues with boxes and symbols, but the Preeti font appears correctly in most places. The font seems incompatible as a target language and when aligning a file with Nepali target language. I am not sure how to troubleshoot since Trados Studio lists Nepali as a supported language.

I will work on creating some sample files that I can share publicly. I have had this issue with a range of documents in Word, all source English files.

Is there a list of supported fonts that is more accurate than the fonts included under "Font Adaptation"?

    Thanks again!
