Optional Hyphens show as a normal hyphen

Hello,

I am using Trados 2017 and I am using optional/soft hyphens.

Unfortunately the optional hyphen, the nonbreaking hyphen and the normal hyphen look exactly the same in my editor window.

They act differently as when I search for any one of them I only get that one. But I would like to see the differences in the text that I'm typing.

Any solution?

Regards, Heleen

  • Dear Paul,

    Thanks!

    The QuickInsert part on the toolbar looks proper — – - {not-symbol=optional hypen} {circle} {arrow}

    In the target segment, it looks like:
    In a DOCX source file I get the same as you. Including the pink tags.
    In an sdlxliff source file I get — – - - (em dash, en-dash, non-breaking hyphen, optional hyphen). The non-breaking and optional hyphen look the same. The non-breaking space is the little circle and the soft break is the little arrow, so they are the same as in the QuickInsert part of the toolbar.

    So just the non-breaking and optional look the same in the sdlxliff source file, namely a hyphen.

    As to the QuickInsert: I also tried the workaround. In my sdlxliff (Project Settings -> File Types -> SDL XLIFF) I don't have the QuickInsert option, so can't change it.

    Does this mean I need to get with the/a programmer?
