Trados 2017 thinks certain sentences pictures or windings-symbols. In the target text the sentences are still in the original language.

It has happened a few times that when we try to translate a powerpoint from Dutch into French, that Trados 2017 seems to think certain sentences are symbols instead of words/characters. So in the finished document, these sentences stay in Dutch and we have to translate them manually. What could be the cause of this and how can we fix it? I have added an example target file and a screenshot of trados (while translating another file with the same problem). I can also send them to you if it doesn't work this way.

Thank you for your help!

  • Hello ,

    Thank you for the materials.
As I see in the file you provided the font is Calibri Light on that page, which should pose no problem to Studio, but is it the same in the whole file? Because as I could see the page in the .pptx file and the screenshot do not contain the same text.

Have you had a chance to look at the source files, to see what the difference can be between them, between the one that is displayed correctly, and the one which is not? Do they use the same font for example?

In cases where Studio struggles to convert fonts the following usually does the trick, could you please try if it solves the issue in our Studio?
For no font substitution go to File -> Options -> Editor and select "Show all tags, but do not show formatting" among the Formatting display style options.

Let us know please if it worked.

Alternatively, if just a small content is displayed incorrectly, I would suggest the following workaround in the meantime:
Please check that in the Project settings 'Allow source editing' is ticked, and then kindly copy the substituted text from the original source file into the corresponding source segment(s) in Studio.

    Best wishes,
    Greta
