What happens if you instead of using the  'Single File' option you select 'New Project' ? Do you get the same issues?

Maybe the first thing I would try, is clearing the TM's from your global settings

Then try setting up the prject/single file translation once again.

Should the issue persist, please try a Studio reset- you can use the following app for this

Thank you for responding quickly.

Here are the results so far :

- I don't have this issue when I select "New Project".

- I cleared the TMs per your instructions but the issue persists

- I tried a Studio reset but the issue persists

- Now I have a message "You have set up different translation memories or automated translation providers for certain language pairs". I am not sure what it means, because for all my language pairs the window reads  "From all language pairs".

- The "Reset to Default" button doesn't seem to work. Nothing changes when I click on it.

I can use my workaround (clicking the double arrow )or set a new project for every file I translate, but it is just going to complicate something was simple with Studio 2014 : translating a single file. Thanks

Your first screen shot is showing a reverse language pair (2*JP-FR and 1* us-EN- FR)

To remove the messages (and unwanted TM's-) simply go to your Global (and project) settings and the specific language pair (here in this example is EN-DE)

and un-tick 'Use different translation providers for this language pair' and remove the TM's.

Now when you create a new single file translation- the issue should be resolved.

Could you please explain what you mean by this ? I am afraid I don't get it...

Also, to access my Global settings, I close all projects in the Projects view, then File > Options  > All Language Pairs. Is this correct ?

The moment your project is showing THREE languages (FR/JP and EN) which is the source of the warning -

You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs-

To access the Global settings- close any open projects that you have and then go to FILE

and then options 

and then to the specific language pairs

Now when you try to create a new single file translation- you no longer see the greyed out TM's or see the warnings-

- These are not my project settings, but my Global settings (Top of background window displays "SDL Trados Studio" and not a project name). Why is this called "All Language Pairs" in Global settings if you cannot set it with 3 language pairs (JP/FR, JP/EN, EN/FR)?

 Anyway, I cleared all TMs from Global settings and Specific language pairs per your instructions.

Then I followed the procedure indicated in the PDF manual on P.16  Defining your default language pair settings (SDL Translating and Reviewing Documents SDL Trados Studio 2019 )

This time, I set up only one language pair with only one TM just to avoid any problems.

I tried to untick the box, but when I did I got the warning( You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs) displayed in the All Language Pairs node. So I proceeded with the box ticked.

I still get the greyed out window.

I use my workaround (clicking twice on the double arrow) to get to this screen, but my TM is greyed out. 

If I untick the box in screenshot 2 above, I will have exactly the same problems, plus the warning.

I'll be happy to receive a call or do a Webex, as you proposed. What is your timezone ?

Hi Sergio.  I believe the folks at SDL did call me and solved it, but I cannot remember how because that was more than 5 years ago... Sorry about that.  

I remember one thing they told me is that the warning  "You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs"  is just that - a warning - and can be ignored. In fact I have been ignoring it for more than 5 years. Hope that helps.

Also, when setting up a new project, I don't bother with specific language pairs in "Language Pairs". I just select "All Language Pairs", then "Use...". and I select the TM file I will be using. I've been working like that for several years.

It can be ignored... but I think it's important to understand why you even get it in the first place.  I believe most of the time it's because some users don't fully understand the "All Language Pairs" vs "Specific Language Pairs" concept.  If you add a TM at "All Language Pairs" then it will be used for all the language pairs in your project... you can of course have one source language and as many target languages as you like.  You can also add the TM at the "Specific Language Pair" level in your project and this allows you to use different settings for that pair than would be applied to all the rest.

The reason this is important to understand is that when you create a single file project and add a TM to it when you are first prompted, this TM will be added to your default project template as well as the language pair.  So if you happened to work on a project using en(GB) - de(DE) one day, and then on another you worked on en(GB) - de(AT) your default project template will now contain two specific language pairs and also TMs for these languages.

If you then create a standard Studio project using this default project template and only intended to have it become en(GB) - en(DE) you may not notice that it actually contains TMs for both language pairs as well as the settings you used in each case.  Then when you open the file to work on it you may even not notice that you are working on en(GB) - de(AT) despite wanting to use the de(DE) because AT comes before DE in the list.... for example.  It also means if you go to your project settings you may even find that you have got resources set up in the specific language pairs and so that message can appear if you then try to add a resource at the All Language Pairs level.

Whilst this may not be the exact scenario you have found yourselves in, this is the sort of thing to look out for as it often causes confusion and explains strange messages that make you wonder why they are there.
