Translation Memory and Document Settings window freezes in Studio 2019

Hi

I am using Studio 2019 and Windows 8.1.
When I use the 'Translate as a single document' option, the 'Translation Memory and Document Settings' window behaves strangely : My TMs do not appear when I select the source and target language in the drop down lists.
The Cancel button works, but the OK and the Advanced button don't.
I have found a workaround : clicking twice on the blue double arrow next to the source language drop down list.
Then my TMs appear.
Any idea about how to solve this problem ?

I have tried the following but to no avail :
-Upgrading TMs
-Setting Studio to supertrusted in my antivirus settings
-Reinstalling Studio and Multiterm as per the following link

community.sdl.com/.../19909

Thank you

Trados Studio 'Translation Memory and Document Settings' window with empty Translation Memory list for selected source and target languages.

  • Hello Philippe Grimbert (PhilippeGrimbert) ,

What happens if you instead of using the  'Single File' option you select 'New Project' ? Do you get the same issues?

Maybe the first thing I would try, is clearing the TM's from your global settings

Trados Studio interface showing the 'New Project' option being selected with a green arrow pointing towards it.

Then try setting up the prject/single file translation once again.

Should the issue persist, please try a Studio reset- you can use the following app for this

    https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/sdl-freshstart/876/

  • Hi Steven

    Thank you for responding quickly.

Here are the results so far :

    - I don't have this issue when I select "New Project".

    - I cleared the TMs per your instructions but the issue persists

    - I tried a Studio reset but the issue persists

    - Now I have a message "You have set up different translation memories or automated translation providers for certain language pairs". I am not sure what it means, because for all my language pairs the window reads  "From all language pairs".

    - The "Reset to Default" button doesn't seem to work. Nothing changes when I click on it.

I can use my workaround (clicking the double arrow )or set a new project for every file I translate, but it is just going to complicate something was simple with Studio 2014 : translating a single file. Thanks

Trados Studio screenshot with a window reading 'From all language pairs' indicating no specific language pair selection.

  • Hello Philippe Grimbert (PhilippeGrimbert) ,

Your first screen shot is showing a reverse language pair (2*JP-FR and 1* us-EN- FR)

To remove the messages (and unwanted TM's-) simply go to your Global (and project) settings and the specific language pair (here in this example is EN-DE)

and un-tick 'Use different translation providers for this language pair' and remove the TM's.

    Global Settings

Trados Studio screenshot showing Global Settings with an arrow pointing to 'Use different translation providers for this language pair' checkbox and a note to un-tick and remove TM's.

Screenshot of Trados Studio with a green arrow pointing to the 'Remove' button in the Translation Memory and Automated Translation window.

    Project Settings

Image of Trados Studio Project Settings highlighting the English United States-German language pair with a note to un-tick 'Use different translation providers for this language pair'.

Now when you create a new single file translation- the issue should be resolved.

  • Hi Steven

    Thanks for following up

Your first screen shot is showing a reverse language pair (2*JP-FR and 1* us-EN- FR)

Could you please explain what you mean by this ? I am afraid I don't get it...

Also, to access my Global settings, I close all projects in the Projects view, then File > Options  > All Language Pairs. Is this correct ?

    Thanks

  • Hello  ,

The moment your project is showing THREE languages (FR/JP and EN) which is the source of the warning -

You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs-

Trados Studio warning message indicating different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs.

To access the Global settings- close any open projects that you have and then go to FILE

Trados Studio interface showing the FILE menu highlighted to access global settings.

    and then options

Trados Studio options menu with a green arrow pointing to the language pairs settings.

and then to the specific language pairs

Trados Studio language pairs options with a green arrow indicating where to click to adjust settings.

Now when you try to create a new single file translation- you no longer see the greyed out TM's or see the warnings-

Duplicate of alt_text_4, Trados Studio language pairs options with a green arrow indicating where to click to adjust settings.

If you prefer, I am happy to call you or do a short Webex to show you this in detail (swhale@sdl.com)

  • Hi Steven

The moment your project is showing THREE languages (FR/JP and EN) which is the source of the warning -

You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs-

    - These are not my project settings, but my Global settings (Top of background window displays "SDL Trados Studio" and not a project name). Why is this called "All Language Pairs" in Global settings if you cannot set it with 3 language pairs (JP/FR, JP/EN, EN/FR)?

Anyway, I cleared all TMs from Global settings and Specific language pairs per your instructions.

Then I followed the procedure indicated in the PDF manual on P.16  Defining your default language pair settings (SDL Translating and Reviewing Documents SDL Trados Studio 2019 )

This time, I set up only one language pair with only one TM just to avoid any problems.

SDL Trados Studio window with a warning message 'You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs'.

SDL Trados Studio options window with 'All Language Pairs' selected and a greyed out translation memory section.

I tried to untick the box, but when I did I got the warning( You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs) displayed in the All Language Pairs node. So I proceeded with the box ticked.

SDL Trados Studio project setup window with a greyed out 'Translation Memory and Automated Translation' section.

I still get the greyed out window.

SDL Trados Studio project setup window with a warning message 'You have set up different translation memories or automated providers for certain language pairs'.

I use my workaround (clicking twice on the double arrow) to get to this screen, but my TM is greyed out.

If I untick the box in screenshot 2 above, I will have exactly the same problems, plus the warning.

I'll be happy to receive a call or do a Webex, as you proposed. What is your timezone ?

  • Hello ,

I am based in the UK (so I think 9 hours behind you).
Maybe we can schedule a call first thing on Monday morning UK time?
