Translated segments remain in the source language in target file

 Hi all,

I have translated a DOCX document in studio 2019. The translation in general came out fine, except for certain text boxes that remained in the source for no apparent reason. Certain other text boxes came out just fine. The ones that remained untranslated were text box objects in charts and those that were were independent text boxes.

What can be the reason for that in Studio? The text in these text boxes appeared in studio source and was translated, no error messages, how come the output file was in the source for these text boxes?

Thanks

Shmuel

Interesting. I encounter the same. Target text is inserted into plain text boxes, but not into embedded charts. Linked objects are not translated, of course, they are independent files. But embedded charts show up in the Studio editor and the translated text is in the Word file. If I click on the object and select "Edit Data", the target text appears. Interesting also that you can't "undo", CTRL-Z this step. Once the target text is in, it's in. I just don't know whether there is an out-of-the-box method to do this with all objects in a document...

Studio tells me that there are embedded worksheets or charts and that I should refresh the objects manually in the MS Word application, but it does not tell me how to do that without clicking through each chart individually.

Perhaps the data in these objects has not been refreshed into the Word file (linked rather than embedded), in which case there is nothing Studio can do because there's nothing there.  Studio can extract embedded Excel sheets and charts but there has to be data in them to see:

Trados Studio settings showing an option checked to 'Extract contents of embedded Excel charts and sheets' under Microsoft Word 2007-2016 Common settings.

The message suggests you refresh so this should mean you simply open the file in Word and if you have access to where the data came from it should all update automatically.  If you don't then you probably need to go back to your client with this question.

The article referred to earlier is almost three years old ;-)
