I wonder if it's got anything to do with this:

Try make sure you are consistent with the position of your TMs.  Either put them all at the specific language pair level, or all at all language pairs.  But don't mix and match.

Also try "upgrading" the TM in the Translation Memories View as opposed to the Project Settings.

Finally... or rather first!  You should upgrade to the latest version of 2019:

SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.7.2849
SDL MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.6.56482

I am not sure I understand this part of your message.What does "You have set up different translation memories or automated translation providers for certain language pairs" mean? Unfortunately, I can't really decide where to put my TMs or what language pairs to choose since I am following a class for my degree and have to do it like everyone else. What's weird is that it works normally for everyone but me.

The TM upgrade seems to work when I do it from "Translation Memories View" instead of doing it from "Translation Memory and Document Settings", thank you for that! But when I restart Trados, the orange triangle comes back. Is there a way to actually use the "Upgrade" button this page? I would like to fix this issue so that I can follow my class properly by using the same button as everyone else.

My version of SDL is not out of date. I upgraded SDL to the latest version (15.2.7.2849) before I posted this question, but all it did was add that orange warning sign on all my TMs (it only appeared on the last one before I did the update).

I hope I managed to explain my issue a little better.

This message:

This tells us you have either put translation memories at the specific language pair level, or just activated them.

So my thought process is you have this box checked telling Studio to take the settings from the specific language pair, but you're trying to "upgrade" a TM at the "All Language Pairs" and Studio is struggling to know where to find things.  But I'm only guessing...

Have your colleagues also got that message?  If they have then why don't you try a reset.  That often cures all ills...

Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0

So the path would become this:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0_old

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

www.howtogeek.com/.../

I saw on other pages of the forum that this could cause the issue so I went to check if it was, and this box is unchecked.

It seems like everyone has the "You have set up different translation memories or automated translation providers for certain language pairs" message but they can upgrade the TM, so it works just fine for them.

So I just tried doing a reset, it worked but it unfortunately did not fix the issue with the "Upgrade" button.

See if this helps:

1. Go to the specific language pair in your Project Settings and activate this option:
   
   Click "yes" to the question that comes up
   
   
2. Click on "OK" and close your Project Settings
   
   
3. Open your Project Settings again and deactivate the option you just activated.  Click on "OK" and close your Project Settings
   
   
4. Open your "Project Settings" again and go to "All Language Pairs" and check to see if the warning message is gone:
   

If that worked and the message is gone try upgrading again from this window.

I just did everything you wrote, and unfortunately the message is still there:

ok.  Please remove the TMs you have in that view.  You didn't give these to me anyway.

Then after you have removed them repeat the exercise.  Once the message has gone put the TMs back and see if this helps.

Yes, the TMs here were from a different project, that's why they weren't in the file I sent you.

I removed them, repeated the steps and put them back. Now, the message is gone, but the orange warning sign is still next to my TMs, and I still can't "upgrade" them, the same error message appears:
