I cannot launch TS 2021 after update to 2021 SR2 16.2.12.9338

Hello,

After downloading Trados Studio 2021 SR2 16.2.12.9338, I cannot launch Trados Studio anymore.

And I receive an error message, "exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation".

I have already tried the following but there has been no luck:

- Delete/rename c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins.

 -Delete/rename c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins.

- Delete/rename  c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins.

 -Delete/rename c:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\SDL Trados Studio

- Disable OneDrive.

- Re-start my computer.

It would be so much helpful if anyone has any suggestions for this case.

Thank you in advance.

  • Dear

When a problem occurs after an update, the first thing to try is a Windows Repair of Studio (and MultiTerm components depending on what the problem is). This will repair software connections by checking for and replacing anything that is missing from the setup, for example.

    Here is how:

    1. Close all SDL applications.
    2. Open the Control Panel:
      • Windows Vista/7: Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Windows 8: Right-click on the screen at bottom-left corner and choose Control Panel > Uninstall a Program.
      • Windows 10: Right-click on Start > Control Panel > Select View by: Small Icons > Programs and Features
      • - or type 'Control Panel' in the search line on your bottom Windows toolbar.
    3. Click/highlight the relevant SDL product from the list (e.g. SDL Trados Studio 2021 etc) and click 'Uninstall/Change' either on the top toolbar or on the right-click dropdown menu (or just 'Repair' for MultiTerm), then select > Yes > Repair. Allow it to run. This will take longer for Studio than for the 3 main components of MultiTerm. Do NOT repair 'Remove suite of products' entries. These are only for uninstalling.
    4. Restart Studio/MultiTerm.

    There are further options here:

Repairing your installation of Trados Studio

Repairing your installation of MultiTerm Desktop

It is also important to check if an update of MultiTerm is required. Open MultiTerm and go to the Help tab and click 'Check for Updates' (or the equivalent in your language).

I hope this helps. If it does not, ask for a support ticket in this thread.

    All the best,

    Ali Smiley

    Hello Alison,

Thank you very much for your swift reply.

I followed your instruction, however, received an error message when I executed "Repair".

Here is the screenshot of the error message.

Error message in Trados Studio 2021 SR2 stating 'Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a different version of this product already installed. If you still wish to remove or repair that version, you must use that version's installer.' with an OK button.

I also checked the MultiTerm but there were no notifications for version updates.

I will "ask for a support ticket" as you suggest. This is actually my first time using this community forum and really appreciate your kind advice.

  • Hello,

I understand that you're having trouble launching Trados Studio 2021 after updating to SR2 16.2.12.9338. You've already tried several troubleshooting steps, but the issue persists. Here's another approach you can try:

Step 1: Close all instances of Trados Studio and any related applications.

Step 2: Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box, type "services.msc" (without quotes), and press Enter.

Step 3: In the Services window, locate "SDL License Server" or "RWS License Server" in the list, right-click on it, and select "Stop."

Step 4: Navigate to the following folder: C:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\

Step 5: Locate the "Licenses" folder and rename it to "Licenses_old."

Step 6: Go back to the Services window, right-click on "SDL License Server" or "RWS License Server," and select "Start."

Step 7: Launch Trados Studio 2021 and check if the issue is resolved.

If the problem persists, you may need to consider reinstalling Trados Studio 2021. Make sure to back up your settings, projects, and translation memories before proceeding with the reinstallation.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

    Best regards,
