Cannot use "Create project package" because selecting "Users" crashes Trados Studio 2024

Only one one PC, we have the same exact issue as described below:

File > Settings > Users makes Trados Studio 2022 freeze

Doing a full reset and re-installation allowed us to click on "Users" without crashing.
However, as soon as we tried adding a name, it crashed again.

The PC is using Windows 11 and is in Japanese. This seems like an issue with saving/loading the UserSettings file, but any advice would be appreciated.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems like you're experiencing a crash when trying to add a user in Trados Studio 2024. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

Step 1: Ensure that your Trados Studio 2024 is up-to-date. You can check for updates within the application.

Step 2: Try running Trados Studio as an administrator. Right-click on the Trados Studio icon and select 'Run as administrator'.

Step 3: If the issue persists, you may want to try repairing your .NET Framework installation. You can do this by going to 'Turn Windows features on or off' in your Control Panel, unchecking .NET Framework, restarting your computer, and then re-checking .NET Framework.

Step 4: If the issue still persists, it might be related to a corrupted UserSettings file. Try deleting the UserSettings.xml file located in the following directory: C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\[Version]\UserSettings.xml. Please note that this will reset your user settings to their default values.

Step 5: If none of the above steps work, you may need to perform a clean reinstallation of Trados Studio. Please ensure to back up your settings and resources before proceeding with this step.

  • Hi Jesse, have you managed to solve it? Paul, could you please help me asap?  I have the exact same problem, both with 2022 and 2024. Clicking "Users" crashes Trados, I bought Trados Professional and I have the funcionality of Freelance because I cannot create packages.

  •

The issue where Trados Studio appears to freeze during the creation of a return package is not caused by the packaging process itself, but rather by the way Studio interacts with Microsoft Outlook at that stage.

When a return package is created, Studio allows users to send it via email. As part of that functionality, Studio loads its internal list of users in the background so they can be selected as recipients. While this list is maintained within Studio, Outlook is used to facilitate the email-sending process.

In some cases this interaction with Outlook does not complete successfully, which prevents the user list from being fully initialised. As a result, Studio hangs or becomes unresponsive, even though the return package itself has already been created successfully.

You’ll might observe the same freezing behaviour if you manually go to File > Setup > Users, since that also triggers the loading of the internal user list.

    Recommended Solution:
Running a repair on Microsoft Office usually resolves the problem by restoring reliable integration with Outlook.

  • Hi Paul, thank you very much. It solved one of the problems related to package creation, which is being able to add a user and create a package. Now however, after I create the package, the last step doesn't work - I mean the "Close" button is inactive. I have this problem every time I create a project package and I have to kill Trados with ctrl+alt+delete and start it again. As you might imagine, when someone creates around around a dozen of packages a day, it's a substantial problem. Any idea how I can solve this?

  • Hi Paul, any update on this? Or do I need to create a separate thread? I still need to shut Trados with ctrl+alt+delete around 15 days every day after creating a package

  •

do I need to create a separate thread?

Separate thread... and only if you can repro in 2024.
