Studio 2024 - Editor - No changes marks in the Translation results window

Trados Studio 2024 editor window showing a translation segment with a 93% match, highlighting differences between the source and target text.

Hi,

I'm on Studio 2024. In the Editor, Translation results window, I no longer see the differences between the translation and the content of the TM. No underlining for text added and no striping for text removed (see picture). No colours either.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It worked for a time (like a week) then the marks disappeared again. I changed nothing in the settings to be sure it wasn't a mistake on my part. It does the same with different clients, TMs or projects.

Has anyone experienced that? Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks in advance!

Franck

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the exact version of Trados Studio 2024 you are using and any error messages you might have received. Also, mention if there were any recent changes to your system or software.

"In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:"

    Hello Franck,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with the display of changes in the Translation Results window in Trados Studio 2024. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Check your settings. Go to File > Options > Editor > Automation. Make sure that "Display formatting tags" and "Display tracked changes" are both checked.

Step 2: Try resetting your window layout. Go to View > Reset Window Layout. This will restore the default settings for your windows.

Step 3: If the issue persists, you might need to manually adjust the top margins of the TM results display and the Editor window. This is because the top-margin of the TM results might be drawn down too much, hiding the results from view.

Step 4: If none of the above steps work, you might need to reinstall Trados Studio 2024. Make sure to back up your settings and projects before doing so.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • Hi

Check whether Match Repair is ON/OFF under File > Options > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Match Repair.

    Turn on, if switched off.

Trados Studio options window showing Match Repair settings under Language Pairs. Match Repair is highlighted in red, with options to turn it On or Off for Editor and Batch Tasks.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards

  • Hi Seraina,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it didn't solve my problem, neither did the solutions proposed by the AI. The strange thing is I have Studio installed on two different computers and I have no problem on one of them. I tried exporting my user profile from the working one to the other one, to no avail.

    Best regards,

    Franck

If this is still a problem I suggest you first make sre you have upgraded to the latest release, and if that doesn't help then reset.

To do this just close Trados Studio and then delete these folders:

    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\

    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\18\

You will lose your plugins, and also your settings, but your projects and other resources will remain untouched. Putting the plugins back is trivial via the integrated appstore.

If you can't find these folders then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

Then restart Trados Studio and see if that helped.

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for your answer. However, this worked a bit then the problem occurred again. I can't figure out why! I have Studio installed on another computer and this doesn't happen on that setup. I am mainly proofreading and this can be a problem sometime. I was hoping this would be corrected with SR1 but it was not. Well, I guess I'll have to get used to it and work as is.

    Regards,

    Franck

It sounds as though the problem isn’t so much Studio itself, but the way your environment is handling user settings.  The fact that it works again after a reset, only to disappear later, suggests that your Studio profile or %appdata% folders are being restored or overwritten.  This can happen if you are working with a redirected profile, a virtual desktop (RDT/VDI/VM), or if %appdata% is being synced (e.g. OneDrive, enterprise backup).  In these setups, Studio may “lose” the display options you’ve enabled because an older profile version is being reapplied.

If that applies to your environment, I’d recommend checking whether your Trados Studio settings folders are persistent and excluded from any sync/restore policies.  That would explain why you see the behaviour on one machine but not the other.
