Error "No reference to the project is known"

After having updated Studio 2015 (SR2) I get the above message.

I get the message: "No reference to the project is known", when I try to open a project in Studio. If I continue, Multiterm is not working - it says that the system cannot connect to my Multiterm file.
When closing the Studio and starting it again, Studio and MT seem to be working again.

I have tried to repair Studio 2015 without any luck. This appears on both my computers which are running with two different virus programmes. Windows Defender on my stationary comp. and on my laptop I have AVG.

The operating system on both computers is Windows 10 which is updated.

Hope I can get help here :-)

  • Hi both,

Perhaps just try one more thing and then you should log a support case to get help with the installation. Uninstall Studio and then install again as admin. So select the installer in your file manager, then right-click and install as admin. Perhaps the cause of the problem is related to permissions and Studio has not been installed with sufficient rights to run correctly.

But if that doesn't help please log a case. For licensing or installation issues that prevent you from working we have a route for all customers to get help. This can be achieved really quickly using this link:

    http://support.xl8.one/

Just fill in the form and submit it. If you can, use the Chrome browser to log the case, you'll get more success in completing the form, and make sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for the suggestion. I have to admit that reinstalling Studio is not particularly appealing at this point, and I am sure that I have installed it as admin, so I will hold on at this point. Thank you also for the link to support - this may prove very useful in the future. However, I know from experience that fluke bugs like this one can be very hard to explain and solve - as they do not reproduce reliably.

I ended up resolving the problem with this particular project by starting from scratch - exporting my memory, creating a project, creating a new memory, and importing my memory again. I will see whether the same operations work in the other project and will hope that this will not reoccur again. I have to admit that I am been a long-time hardcore Trados fan, but Studio does things with no rime, reason or consistency (adding new TU when I have explicitly instructed it to overwrite is another example) that make me shrug in despair.

Thanks again for your precious help,
    Evelyna
  • Hi both,
I share Evelyna's point of view. Time is money and starting all over again reinstalling Studio on both my computers is not an option unless I cannot avoid it. I will try following Evelyna's example and starting from scratch with my future projects. And yes, Studio seems to have its own life - and this is not the first time I regret updating.

I will also thank you for your help and speedy reply,

    Mette
  • Thanks both. I do agree with you that it is frustrating, but worth noting that if a lack of admin rights is the issue then if you don't reinstall the problem will not go away. A reinstall isn't too much of a problem, it's something our Beta testers do in a production environment quite regularly. No need to return licenses or back up files anywhere... just uninstall and reinstall (as admin). Doesn't take too long.

But I do understand your concern... so keep the details for support and if you do need some help please log the case and refer to this thread.

    Regards
