On my system, I notice that the playback of the video lags behind the audio playback and the subtitles. Audio and subtitles are perfectly aligned, but video lags behind more and more, maybe 5 seconds after a minute of playback. Is the video file too large that I am using? (450MB for a 3m40s video, mpg format)

Most of our testing was done with mp4 and wmv as these were the formats that were more commonly used with our testers. I have not noticed any lag... but as with the other question, if you can share your files with me we'd be very happy to take a look and see if we can identify where the problem comes from.
As we find with virtually everything we develop we get little to no feedback while we are building it and it's only after we release that people start to use it and feedback. I'm really glad to get the feedback but it would be so much better if we could find a way to get more involvement when we're actually building things!

We might be open to some external Beta testing if you are really going to test it and provide some feedback. All to often we get people asking and they provide nothing back to us at all which makes our effort a waste of time. Might as well wait until we release and then let people complain!
Oddly I was right... we got nothing!
However, now we have released we're getting a lot of feedback and much of it is really good so we are making changes as we speak to improve the way it works.

Well, then it must be my English - I really did not understand that post as "Do you want to test it?".
In any case, for reasons I stated back in that thread I'm VERY skeptic to using CAT tools for subtitles translation (I learned my lessons during my loc engineering career)... and the feedback so far just confirms my experience.
And I leave now up to others if they will learn the same the hard way or not... ;-)

You're wrong. Translators have been using CAT tools for subtitle translation for years. We can improve the features to make the process better and the next release will incorporate improvements from the feedback we have received in just a few days after release.

Translators have been using CAT tools for subtitle translation for years.
I was too. But it was sooo useless... ;-)
Not that it wasn't possible... I never said that. But the real-life effect/advantage of using a CAT tool was ZERO.
I have spoken to enough people to know you are way off the mark here. This is only your experience, which is clearly limited in this field. Perhaps you are only referring to movies or something like that... I don't really know, and it doesn't really matter. The fact is that there is a growing need for this today and if you were still working in the industry you might start to see it.
The first feedback after release is the opposite of what you say and this comes from a user who does do a lot of work in this field:
So I have completed my first small job with the tool. As I expected from the demo, it was perhaps the most efficient way of doing the job there is, IMO, so overall positive and very welcome, as I said to you.
I know Pavel is only one person, and so are you. I have a lot of time for the things you have to say as you were experienced in the industry, but this time I think you're off the mark. But time will tell! Certainly the webinar we held this week was the most attended webinar I have seen in my time with SDL which reinforces my opinion that there is a demand here. It's a question now of making sure we offer the most appropriate functionality we can for specialists still working in this field.

Anyways, I am not at all surprised that you are doing some firefighting now, I would not have expected it to be otherwise. Rolling this out as an app has given you the flexibility to publish smaller updates until everything is really running smoothly.
Unlike Evzen, I am really excited about this app and the potential it has for our organization.
One thing is sure: Subtitles require a separate TM, so that the main TMs are not trashed up with sentence fragments as they are usual for subtitles. And in subtitling projects, the TM has a different function as you can't expect a lot of straight TM "hits". This is where fragment matching, concordance etc. are the main functions. And of course the Termbase, to ensure proper translation of key terms.
I think you are on the right track with this app. This is from an academic publication on subtitling:

The feedback always depends on the way the people were used to work so far. If one used some weird workflow like Word or Excel files, then this might be a huge improvement.
Still, I believe that even tools like Subtitle Edit provide waaay more subtitling-friendly way of work.
