Hi Paul

Hope all's well.

I have had the same error message come up. Very disappointing as I already had problems getting Multiterm to work with 2021 and after 2 months of toing and froing with SDL Support and even the Development team, I had to abandon using it and continue with 2019. Was hoping SR1 might be a solution but no.

Would appreciate some help.

Unfortunately, yes. When I try to add a local termbase to a project in Studio, it hangs for several minutes and then I get the message: "General error occured. Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown".

Equally, if I try to open a termbase directly in Multiterm, I get the "Loading Termbase List" message, which again hangs for several minutes and then throws the error "A connection to SDL Multiterm Server unknown could not be established".

ok - I discussed with support to get the full story and it does seem as though you have a trickier problem to resolve.  Support spent a lot of time on this, and even had development build a diagnostic tool to see if they could pinpoint where it's failing but they were not able to help.  It seems as though the next step, if you want to try and use it, would be to reinstall Windows as suggested.

I had to do that for a problem with MS Office not installing on my wife's brand new laptop a couple of months ago.  Very frustrating so I know where you're coming from... but once done everything is now working just fine.  Hopefully, if you do decide to try it things will work out for you.

Really appreciate all the time spent by SDL and yourself on this. Perhaps when I have some breathing space from work I'll reinstall Windows, but it is a daunting task.

Hi everybody, I have the same problem with Studio 2021 SR1 ( Error 1603 - ''Setup did not complete'' when installing SDL Trados Studio 2021 SR1 - I followed twice the advice above:   \ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLTradosStudio2021SR1>lsinit.exe -debug ... but it did not help, error 1603 appears again and again. Do I understand correctly you had to reinstall Windows, please? Not a pleasant perspective... Thank you for any advice.

Hi Ludmila - I haven't tried the Windows reinstall yet so can't answer your question I'm afraid. Good luck though!

To ensure your post is not missed, please always start a new thread when one such as this is older and there hasnt been any updates in recent ties.

In this case however- please-

1. Navigate to to C:\ProgramData\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS Development Kit and rename the System folder
2. Open Windows Command Prompt (CMD) with admin rights, enter the following command : cd C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLTradosStudio2021SR1 and press enter
3. Type lsinit.exe –debug and press enter
4. Run Studio installer

Note: a. To open CMD with admin rights just press the Windows key+ S, type CMD, right click on the Command prompt window that will appear and select run as administrator
b. If you can't find the path at step 1 just open Windows File Explorer, go to View and check the "Hidden Items" checkbox

Here is what I do to avoid problems like this:

I use Acronis to make a full backup every night. That way I can always roll everything back if I hit a bad problem.

Before I install/update Studio or any major program, I also make a full backup, so that I can roll everything back in situations like yours. (Windows can save restore points, but I have been in situations where Windows was unable to roll back using a restore point, so I don't rely on them any more.)

I found that I was typically reinstalling Windows and all of my programs every year or two in order to get rid of problems.

So I have been saving a full backup every time I reinstall Windows and all my programs and get everything set up properly. That gives me a copy of my system and programs that I can use next time I run into problems.

Now, when something has broken somewhere and I can't figure out what, I can restore the nice clean backup I made a year or two ago, run Windows update to bring it up to date, update any programs, make any needed changes to settings -- and then create another clean backup that I can use next time.

This also takes considerable time, but at least I avoid having to install everything from scratch again if something goes wrong :-)

thank you very much, I will keep all your precious advice in mind. I will definitely make regular back-ups. 

My today´s problem was solved due to the hint "go to View and check the "Hidden Items" checkbox" (I could have been more clever before ).
