The sentence in an excel file is divided into multiple cells and so in numerous segments in the studio

The problem is the source excel file is formatted awkwardly. The sentences are divided among consecutive cells of columns.

The Studio shows the sentences also in split segments. First, we tried to merge segments in Studio, but I understood that the target file would be formatted differently than the source file.

What would be the way for me to tackle such an excel file?

thanks

  • I actually like your solution to this problem.  It's clever and will return the file in the same format.  It is a little bit different to the source, but I don't think this matters at all.  I'd be interested to see how that would look if the text was translated... especially into something like Chinese for example where there are no spaces between the words?

Can you show me again your style to solve this RWS (Real World Scenario) problem ?

I wouldn't call it my style.  It was a suggestion.  I know full well what the Bill of Quantities will be used for in practice and in these circumstances I don't think it matters that the source is reformatted to merge the text.  Only the description is merged and the quantity, units, rate and amount will all be aligned correctly.  So for this particular problem I would change the source.  Particularly in a multilingual project because then I only need to do this once.

But it might not always be appropriate if you have files like this.  So would I develop a plugin to solve this problem?  Probably not since the solution I would use here is less money and offers a lot more features for other things.

But for other usecases your solution might be more appropriate.  An interesting discussion and the tool you created is certainly innovative so I am not pushing one or the other.
