Disable a segmentation rule

Good morning,

When translating an html file, we're facing an issue with Trados Studio since it segments the bold parts that are between the tags <strong> and </strong>. Here is an example:

HTML:

HTML code snippet showing the word 'Robe' in bold between strong tags followed by 'Or pale seduisant aux subtils reflets argentes.'
Trados Studio interface highlighting the segmentation issue where 'Nez' is in bold between strong tags followed by 'la Cuvee Speciale Rose celebre le fruit frais avec subtilite et franchise.'

Trados:

Trados Studio translation grid showing segmented text with 'Robe' on one line and 'Or pale seduisant aux subtils reflets argentes.' on another line.
Trados Studio translation grid showing segmented text with 'Nez' on one line and 'la Cuvee Speciale Rose celebre le fruit frais avec subtilite et franchise.' on another line.

This has also happened previously with bold letters in the middle of a sentence or even in words. We don't have any segmentation rule in our memory that tells Trados to segment whenever a "</strong>" appears, so we can't delete it. How can we tell Trados to not segment whenever this tag appears?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Noa

  • As far as I can see the default settings don't do this:

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing two segments with HTML strong tags around the word 'Nez' in a file named bold.html, with no visible errors or warnings.

So I suggest you look at whether you have created parser rules that segment on the html filetype, or maybe created a segmentation rule on your TM.  Given the defaults don't do this with the file I created based on your image we'd need more information from you to be able to help.

  • Good morning, Paul

Thank you for your reply. We've been checking our Trados parser rules for the html filetype and we can't find anything related to the bold ("strong") tag. Here is a screenshot of the parser rules:

Screenshot of Trados Studio parser rules showing a list of HTML tags such as html, head, meta, title, link, script, body, div, p, h3, img, h4, dl, dt, dd, i, and br with their respective conditions and translation settings.

We've just tried adding a "strong" rule with the same configuration as the other rules, but nothing changes on the segmentation, so we've deleted it. It was like this:

Screenshot of the 'Add Rule' dialog in Trados Studio with the 'strong' tag selected, showing options for Translate, Tag Type, and Segmentation hint.

We've also tried with both "Not translatable" and "Inline" interchangeably with "Translatable" and "Structure" and we haven't found the way to make it work with this configurations.

In our memories, we only have the 3 default ones and the ones we have created for the hyphen and the "br" tag:

Screenshot of the Segmentation Rules window in Trados Studio displaying a list of rules including Full stop rule, Other terminating punctuation, Colon, hyphen segmentation 1, hyphen segmentation 2, BR segmentation, with an option to reset to defaults.

    How should we proceed?

    Thank you,
